Robert Mota Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by De Riso Funeral Home - Brooklyn on Feb. 6, 2026.
Robert Mota Jerez passed away on February 2, 2026, after a long and courageous struggle with diabetes and kidney failure. He was a man of resilience, complexity, and unmistakable presence whose life left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Robert was married to Altagracia on December 21, 1981. It was his striking blue-green eyes that first stole her heart. Their journey together, like many, included meaningful years as well as challenges that shaped their family's story.
He was the father of five children. His eldest daughter, Arisi Mota, shared his birthday-an uncommon bond that connected them in a unique way. Arisi and his eldest son, Arison Lopez, spent much of their upbringing in Greece, yet continued to make efforts to maintain relationships across the distance. He is also survived by his son Jonathan Mateo, and his youngest daughters Jatania Mota and Regina Mota.
Robert was the proud grandfather of four beautiful granddaughters, who brought joy and light into his life.
A true jack of all trades, Robert was especially known for his work as a handyman. He had an extraordinary ability to build and fix almost anything, often creating something lasting out of scraps. His creativity and resourcefulness were well known and admired. He was also always willing to help, a man who would give anyone the clothes off his back if they were in need.
Robert loved cars, took pride in his appearance, and was known for dressing in vibrant colors that reflected his bold personality. He was also the life of the party-a natural dancer who stole the spotlight and the one who kept everyone laughing. His love of dancing clearly lived on in his children, as all of them inherited his moves… except Jatania, a detail he found especially funny.
Robert shared close and meaningful relationships with his nieces and nephews, who showed their love and devotion by making sure they were present with him during his final days. Their care and presence brought him comfort and reflected the deep family bonds he valued.
In faith, we acknowledge that Robert, like all of us, lived an imperfect life. We trust in a merciful God who sees the full story of a person's heart-his struggles, his intentions, his love, and his humanity. We find comfort in the words of Jesus:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
- Matthew 11:28
We commend Robert to God's grace, trusting that his suffering has ended and that he is now at rest.
Robert Mota Jerez will be remembered for the life he lived, the laughter he brought, the style he carried, the generosity he shared, and the family who carries his story forward.
