Robert (Rob) David Murphy, 45, of Clarksburg, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 18, 2024 after suffering a massive heart attack at home.
He was born on April 11, 1979, a son of the late Robert Dorsey Murphy and Jill (Wayne) Swart, who survives.
He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1997 and went on to attend Fairmont State University. In 1999, he began his career in the West Virginia Division of Corrections at Huttonsville Correctional Center as a Corrections Officer, transferring to Pruntytown Correctional Center, where he worked his way up to the ranks of Lieutenant. He then became the Inmate Movement Coordinator/Institutional Parole Officer, and eventually Unit Manager on the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Unit. In 2019, he began his career at the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Criminal Justice Information Center in WV and was currently a Supervisor in the NICS Operations Unit, leading a team. He also was the Children and Youth Pastor at Duff Street United Methodist Church where he was known as Mr. Rob and spearheaded many years of Vacation Bible Schools, Christmas Plays, Night in Bethlehem, Sunday School, and service projects. He was responsible for countless baptisms, affirmations and confirmations and traveled to Georgia taking a group of young adults every January for the Passion Conference. His love for children and youth was endless. His devotion to his church was immeasurable.
On June 9, 2001, he married his soulmate, Tiffani (Norris) Murphy, and that began an unbreakable bond that will forever remain steadfast and true. Together they created a life filled with faith, love, respect, commitment and support. They welcomed 3 amazing children into the world during their life together: Emily Murphy (fiancé Gordon Swiger), Timothy Murphy and Lilyanna Murphy, who Rob was undeniably devoted to every day of their lives together. Rob always worked at least two jobs to provide for his children's physical needs all the while making sure their spiritual needs were always met. He was THE best husband and father.
Rob is also survived by several loving family members: Heather Case, sister; Zach, Tyler, and Gillian Case, nephews and niece; Larry Norris, father-in-law; Brian and Kari (Norris) Smith, brother and sister-in-law, Ashlyn, Ethan and Chloe Smith, nieces and nephews; Bubby, Alicia and Fallyn Swiger; Pastor Tim Kelley and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He cherished every person in his life.
In March 2024, Rob began the path of obtaining his Local Pastoral License in the United Methodist Church and fulfilled that goal which would allow him to become a pastor of a local church, which was always his dream.
Rob was overflowing with love for his family, friends and God. If we were asked if yesterday was our last day on earth, do we have any regrets, most of us would say yes. Rob did not, as it was clear that he appreciated his life and everyone in it every single day. Especially the little moments spent with those he loved. He loved his family above anything else and it was an honor for him to be at every cheer competition, soccer game, volleyball match and anywhere his family was. Rob and Tiffani were two people who were like one and had something unbelievable for a marriage. Rob always knew exactly what to say to make everyone feel special and valued, treating everyone with the same compassion and love, all the while conveying the humor only Rob was known to have. He was one of a kind and his light shined so bright. If anyone in the world would make it to Heaven, it would be Rob Murphy. If his untimely death can bring anything, it would be to love each other like you would want to be loved, just as Rob did each and every day of his life on this earth and to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
