Robert W. O'Neill

Robert W. O'Neill, 82 of Maryville, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Liberty Village, Maryville, IL, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born on June 12, 1930 in Madison, IL, a son to the late Bryan and Hannah (Engleky) O'Neill. Robert was a Korean War Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Marines. On August 14, 1980 he married Vickie Sonnenberg, the love of his life, in Eufaula, AL and she survives. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Collinsville, IL and Woodson Terrace Business Association. Robert owned the Subway Restaurant on Woodson Rd. in St. Louis, MO for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and carpentry work, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Smith and three brothers, Russell, Ralph and Harold O'Neill. In addition to his loving wife, Robert is survived by his two wonderful sons, Ken O'Neill of St. Louis, MO and Michael (Samye) O'Neill of San Angelo, TX, one adoring granddaughter, Hannah O'Neill; four dear sisters, Mildred Wigginton of CA, Lois (Joe) Hassler of Springfield, IL, Carol Meehan of Granite City, IL and Betty Pulley of Granite City, IL; dear sister in laws; brother in laws and many dear nieces and nephews. Visitation: Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL, 519 Glen Crossing Rd. In celebration of his life, Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Irwin Chapel, with Rev. Michael Walther officiating.
