Robert Allen Peterson, more affectionally known as Bob or Coach, passed away at his home of 20 years in Conroe, Texas, on June 9, 2024. He was born to Jean Ogren Eastlund and Floyd Eastlund on June 24, 1947. He was raised by his parents Jean and Jim Peterson. He graduated from Benson High School in 1965 and furthered his education by attending Augsburg College in St. Paul, MN and University Minnesota Morris in Morris, MN with a degree in Science and Physical Education. Later he received his master's degree in education and administration.
His career began in Elmore, MN teaching and coaching. He then moved to Redwood Falls where he continued teaching and coaching. His next move was to BOLD where he was a Principal at the Elementary, Junior High, and Senior High levels. His final years in education included working on 3 different campuses as a Physical Education Teacher in Conroe ISO in Conroe, Texas. His career was extremely rewarding because of his love for students.
In 1967, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Karen Paul, and together they built a family and a life filled with love and laughter. Bob was a devoted father to Toni (Stacey) Bell, Bobby (Kristine) Peterson, and Merridee (Brian) Rodel. His grandkids were an integral part of his life. Samuel, Jack, and Hannah Hadland; Jozy (Travis) Null, Lilly and Maddox Rodel; and Finley and Blakley Peterson. He was fortunate to be able to live near them throughout his entire life. Whether it be movies, sporting events, playing cards, making Halloween costumes, listening to music on the car radio, or just planning their futures by giving advice, they were always close to his heart.
His life before retirement revolved around family, church, and school activities and students. After retirement, he added being an avid fisherman to his list of enjoyment. He was especially excited about fishing on the numerous lakes in the Alexandria area with family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Dave. His legacy will be carried on by his loving wife, Karen; his children Toni, Bobby, and Merridee; his grandchildren Sam, Jack, Jozy, Lilly, Hannah, Maddox, Finley, and Blakley; his brother Jim Peterson; his sister Kathy Eastlund; his sisters-in-law Deb Peterson, Marjorie Tilleskjor, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on July 8, 2024, at 1 :00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 1655 18'" Ave. E. in Alexandria, MN. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the church.
