Robert Pryor Obituary
Published by Legacy on Nov. 17, 2025.
The world lost one of its kindest souls on Friday, November 14, 2025, when our beloved dad, Robert Hugh Pryor, took his final breath at the age of 85. Dad left this world surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty and kindness that will never fade.
Born on June 23, 1940 in Hurley, Mississippi, Robert lived a life defined by integrity, compassion and a steadfast commitment to the people he loved. To know him was to know unwavering support and genuine care.
While a young man, Robert spent many years working as a merchant seaman traveling the world. Later in life, he was married to Susan and started a family. Robert and Susan had many years of happiness. He retired from shipbuilding and spent time mentoring at the Jackson County Literacy Council. Of all his accomplishments, his family was his greatest. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and everything about nature.
He was there for us in every chapter of life. Through the celebrations, the challenges, and the everyday moments that often go unnoticed. He stood by our side in the big milestones, cheered for us in our victories and quietly held us steady in the storms. His presence was constant, his love unwavering, and his support never ending. In every corner of our lives, we could feel his care – not just in the words he spoke, but in the way he showed up, time and time again.
Though our lives will never be the same without him, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in every act of kindness, every moment of laughter and every bond of love he helped create. His greatest gift to us was teaching us that love is a verb. We will forever be grateful for the gift of having had him in our lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Doris Roberts Pryor and Heyward Cunningham; siblings, Deveaux Cunningham, James Pryor, Betty Jean Frazier and Christine Green.
He is survived by his children, Nicholas Conley, Amanda (Wesley) Capers and Robert Hugh (Lori) Pryor, Jr.; grandchildren, Anna Capers, Alyssah Thorne, Alannah Malone, Treyce Capers, Makenzie Brooks, MaKenna Conley, Mallorie Conley, Charleigh Pryor and Robert Hugh Pryor, III; siblings, Heyward Cunningham, Juanita Cunningham, Josephine Allison, Harold Cunningham and Charolette Holder; mother of his children, Susan Pryor.
Special thanks to his wonderful caregiver, Lynette Green. She was a wonderful blessing to Robert and the family. We are forever grateful for her love and care of our dad during his health decline. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Gentiva Hospice for their service and kindness during this time.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Moments Funeral Home at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories and honor the incredible man who touched so many lives.
