Robert Quinn Obituary

Robert Quinn November 13, 1931 - March 23, 2024 Lancaster - Robert Douglas "Bob" Quinn passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at home in Lancaster, California. Bob was born in Gloversville NY to Francis and Mildred Quinn. After serving in the US army as a paratrooper from 1950-1953, Bob attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he received a degree in aeronautical engineering. At CU he met the love of his life Sheila Genske; they were married in 1955 and after Bob's graduation moved to Canoga Park, California, where they lived before moving to Lancaster. Bob joined NASA in 1960 as a heat transfer specialist and worked on a variety of thermal projects associated with high-speed flight and earth atmosphere reentry, including the X-15, the YF-12, and the space shuttle. He authored and co-authored over 30 technical reports and received numerous honors and awards. After retiring in 1997, he continued to work for NASA as a consultant for 15 years. Bob was an avid baseball fan, playing high school varsity baseball and coaching the next two generations. But most of all Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. His greatest joy was his family Sheila, his wife of 67 years, and his 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother Floyd. He is survived by his brother John Quinn, sisters Joyce Czrew and Mickey Barnett, his sons Robert Quinn (Sue), and Mark Quinn (Kim), daughters Jeanette Quinn (Andrew Carmen), Nancy Jenkins, and Donna Visokey (Andy); grandchildren Andrew Visokey (Dana), Patrick Quinn (Jessica), Adam Visokey, Erin Brown (Michael), Heather Kelley (Jeff), Nathan Visokey (Kimberlee), Matthew Quinn, and Jessica New; and great-grandchildren: Hayden, Ethan, Brody, Colton, William, Lucas, and Trinity Rose. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at Grace Chapel, 44648 15th Street West, Lancaster, CA at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
