Presque Isle - Robert (Bob) D. Rackliffe, 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 9, 2026, after a period of declining health, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born December 17, 1934, in Fort Fairfield to Everett and Madelyn (Burke) Rackliffe.
Dad attended Fort Fairfield schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1954 to 1957. Upon returning home, he married Carolyn (Nightingale) and together they began what would become 61 years of marriage. They began this journey in Connecticut; however, their deep roots brought them back to the county quickly and life on the farm began. Some of our most cherished memories were made during the harvest season; long, hard days, yet we worked together as a family. Dad faced the many challenges of farming with pride, determination and perseverance.
Dad was later employed at H.O. Bouchard, Hampden, Maine, from 1985 to 2003. He was named employee of the year in 1996. In 1999, Dad was inducted into the "1 million safe driving miles" group.
Dad was an active member of Framework Church, where he attended men's Bible study, seniors' Bible study, assisted with men's breakfast times and the annual Carroll McKenna Thanksgiving Meal Project.
A dedicated, loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he was lovingly nicknamed "Bobbie", "Double R", "my favorite uncle", "grampie Bob", and "whiny sissy baby". He, in turn, had nicknames for those he deeply loved!
Dad was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR, loyal to his favorite driver, Chase Elliott. If we received a call after the race, we all knew Chase won! Dad was a fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball Team. He followed their games every year and he loved talking about game highlights with those who shared his passion.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Carolyn; brothers, Dick, Tuny, and Tom; sisters, Lois, Bette, Joyce and Jan; grandson, Logan; sister-in-law, Avis, and several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by daughter Kim (Al) Maynard, sons Michael, Ricky and Randy, grandchildren Andrew (Cheyenne) Doody, Matthew Audibert, Ryan (Heidi) Rackliffe, Kaci (Casey) Garrison, Jordan (Lisa) Carmichael, Christopher (Sophie) Lachance, Olivia Barnes and Joshua Barnes, Sara and Nick Maynard, great grandchildren, Madyson, Autumn, Andre, Noah Doody; Dash Swimm, Mia, Alec and Emmett Drake; Amiyah Maynard, Owen and Kaylee Rackliffe, Maya, Owen and Riley Garrison, Jaxon Barnes, Lainee and Jensen Carmichael, Gabriele, Adeline and Liam Rackliffe, Maddy Maynard. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth, sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Carl Nightingale and Mary and Clarke Walker, and many nieces and nephews.
Our family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care Dad received from the dedicated, loving staff at Caribou Veterans Home. They will forever be in our hearts and always a treasured part of our family. Services will be announced at a later time.
