Robert Raines Obituary

Robert was born in Clarksdale, MS to L.C. and Bertie Lee Raines on August 12, 1938. He parted this life on January 27, 2026, at the Simmerson House at Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo, MS.

Robert was a loving father and doting grandfather (Papa) who would always do anything he could to help someone. He was an avid coin collector who would request rolls of coins and spend hours going through them checking dates and traits of rare coins. He always enjoyed working and staying busy and worked into his 80's until his Alzheimer's made it impossible to continue doing so. He will always be remembered for his loving and giving nature.

He is preceded in death by his late wife, Laney Bishop Raines and his great-granddaughter Ava Kaye. Robert is survived by his daughter, Fonda Raines Hellen (Lonn), of Brandon, MS, his son, Michael Anthony Raines, of Tupelo, MS, and his son, Robert James Raines, Jr., of Pontotoc, MS.

His well-loved grandchildren who always brought him such joy and lit up his face like sunshine are Breanna Kaye Raines, Megan Raines, Robert James Raines, III "Trey", Courtney Raines, Breanna Raines, and Renae Hellen Vallas (Jason). His adored great grandchildren are Alina Kaye, Kolson Dre, Jon Jason and Joshua Jason.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Pegues, Tupelo.

A Celebration of Life honoring Robert Raines will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Bro. John Cagle officiating.
