Robert Charles Ramey, affectionately known as Bob, passed away on March 16, 2025 in Abingdon, Virginia, at the age of 89. Born on March 11, 1936 in Buchanan County, Virginia, Bob lived a life dedicated to family, passion, and enterprise.
Bob was the proud owner of Ramey Trucking for over 30 years, where his hard work and determination contributed significantly to the local community. His commitment extended beyond his career as he joined the United States Army in 1955, demonstrating a strong sense of duty to his country.
In his personal life, Bob was a man of diverse interests and hobbies. He enjoyed water skiing and had a special fondness for restoring old cars, tractors, and trucks. His love for playing cards, especially Rook, brought many joyful moments with family and friends. An avid NASCAR fan, he found great excitement in following his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Bob also cherished the companionship of his beloved dogs, which added warmth to his home.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Phyllis Dean Ferrell Ramey. He will be missed by his sons, Gary Ramey and wife Tammy, Greg Ramey, and Kevin Ramey; as well as his daughter-in-love, Renea Ramey. He is also remembered by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Norman, and his cherished grandsons, Gary Cooper, Ryan Ramey (Shannon), Cannan Ramey and Grant Ramey, and great-grandchildren Ava Cooper, Taylor Collier, Addison Collier, Hudson Collier, Joshua Ramey, and Hadley Brooke Ramey. His fur baby, Sadie, held a special place in his heart.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Farris Cremation & Funeral Center – Forest Hills Chapel in Abingdon, VA from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Michael Booker officiating. Military honors will be provided by Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
Bob’s legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. His presence will be profoundly missed.
