Robert Reece Obituary

On January 3, 2026, Robert L. Reece "Bob" passed from this life surrounded by his family. Bob was born on June 17, 1945 in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Charles R. Reece and Ella Mae (Westerwelle) Reece.

When Bob was ten the family moved to Canton, Ohio. He graduated from Perry High School, Massillon, Ohio in 1963. In January 1964 he joined the U.S. Army and served until January 1967. He served at the 8th Army Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea and East Coast Telecommunications Center (Fort Detrick) in Frederick, MD.

His military training led to a 38-year career with IBM. After his retirement in 2005 he worked at Clustered Spires golf course for ten years.

He enjoyed playing golf. For many years he played on Tuesday and Thursday morning with the same group of guys. Every October he enjoyed a yearly golf outing to North Carolina with family and friends.

In addition to golf, Bob enjoyed playing poker, cruising, yard work, gardening, and tinkering with small engines. For the past several winters he went to Cocoa Beach, Florida for a month where he would play poker everyday with the Ocean Landing Poker group.

Bob was familiar face at his grandchildren's school events. He was there cheering them on from sporting events, musicals, drama, and academic achievements.

As a proud veteran he was a member of the American Legion Post #168 for 59 years.

He was a member of South End Baptist Church for 35 plus years. Where he served on the trustee committee.

Surviving is his wife Lynn (Wiles) Reece. In February they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are his sons, Scott A. Reece (Susan) of Adamstown, MD and Michael C. Reece (Beth) of Chesapeake, VA. Grandchildren Kara E. Reece, Collin M. Reece , Madison E. Reece , Sydney L. Reece , and Elizabeth M. Reece. Also surviving are brothers Richard Reece (Karen) and David Reece (Barbara), and several nephews, cousins, and a niece. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Paul W. Reece and niece Amber H. Reece.

Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Thursday January 8th, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at the South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, MD 21701, on Friday January 9, 2026 at 11am. Interment will immediately follow in the Honor of Veterans section of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bob's name to the South End Baptist Church or Frederick Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701.
