Robert Reed Obituary

Mr. Robert Hugh Reed, age 95, of Winston-Salem, passed away on December 11, 2025, following an extended decline in health. He was born on November 23, 1930, in Bellevue, PA, to the late Col. Malcolm Farra Reed and Edith Mae Coon Reed. He was preceded in death by his brother, Malcolm Reed of Roanoke, Virginia; and his sister, Janice Friedman of Spokane, WA. Mr. Reed grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, and was employed by Piedmont Airlines in 1950 at Woodrum Field and subsequently transferred to Winston-Salem in 1957. He worked as Staff Assistant in the Traffic Department at Smith Reynolds Airport and eventually became Director of Cargo Services. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as Staff Vice-President Stations. He retired from Piedmont Airlines in 1988 and enjoyed a hobby-filled lifestyle until he experienced a decline in health. Mr. Reed married Ileita Anne Lee on January 12, 1951, and they enjoyed 74 years together. They had two sons, Robert Lynn Reed (Marie) of Kernersville, NC, and Richard Allen Reed of Winston-Salem, NC, (Suzanne) and had three granddaughters: Emily Ackley (Steven), Casey Lynch (Brandon), and Sally Wimberley (Matthew). Mr. Reed had nine great-grandchildren. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston Salem, NC. After his retirement he worked for several years in Glad Tidings, the church gift shop.
The family will receive friends at Centenary Fellowship Hall on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 1 to 2 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm in the Chapel. Visitors should enter the Fellowship Hall from the 4 and a half Street entrance. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Centenary United Methodist Church or Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The Reed family was overwhelmed by the incredible care given to Mr. Reed during his 18-day stay at Trellis. It was truly a blessing. Hayworth-Miller-Lewisville Chapel is serving the Reed family.
