Robert D. Riney, 89, of Aurora, IL, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born October 15, 1934, in Piper City, IL, the son of Clyde and Marjorie (Doran) Riney. He married Mary L. Rhoad on August 1, 1958, in St. Joseph, MO. Bob proudly served in the US Navy in Pensacola. In his youth, Bob was a very active member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Piper City. Later he joined St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery. Bob was a Lifetime Member of the Aurora Hunting and Fishing Club. He was a member of the Barber Greene Hunting and Fishing Club in Oswego. Bob was known for his immaculate yard, beautiful gardens, and kindness. He enjoyed all sports, especially men's fast pitch softball.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; two daughters, Rhonda Cochran and Kelli Collins; six grandchildren, Matthew (Beth) Olson, Bart (Monica Zycinski) Olson, Sam (Katie) Olson, Pat (Viktoriia Dolaichuk) Olson, Claire (Tyler) Farnsworth, Olivia (Matthew Schlipper) Collins; seven great grandchildren, Emma (Aaron), Finn, Leo, Mila, Colette, Paige, and Dean; one sister, Margie Ann O'Mara; three sisters-in-law, Laura, Linda, and Joyce; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Edgar Clark Rhoad and Laura Pearl, his siblings, Charles Riney, Margaret Eshelman, Mardelle English, and Marlene Pearl, and his beloved dog, Tanner.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano. A Private Service will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warriors Project.
