Robert Charles "Bob" Roland

Robert Charles "Bob" Roland passed away peacefully on November 18, 2021, after a very short illness.

He was born on August 28, 1942 in Bartlesville, OK to Charles H. Roland and Frances E. Goeser. His father was widowed soon after, and married Rosalind Lobdill in 1944, who lovingly raised him and his sister Carol E. King.

Bob grew up in Phillips, TX and after graduating from Phillips High School attended Frank Phillips Junior College. He then became a proud Red Raider at Texas Tech University where he obtained a Bachelor degree in Engineering Physics and a Master of Business Administration. He had a career as a professional engineer. He was active as a Blackhawk Phillips High School alum all of his adult life.

Bob had three daughters, his oldest favorite Rosie, his middle favorite Carla, and his youngest favorite Caroline. Additionally, he had numerous doggies along his life, with Asta being his latest walking, napping and movie watching partner.

He was a life-long collector of items and friends. Among his serious collections were stamps, knives, guns, postcards, anything his dear wife was interested in, and so much more. His love of collections led him to sell on eBay, where he had a 100% positive seller rating for many years. Among his "lesser" collections, his family is lucky to have inherited thousands of toothpicks, hundreds of mint Life Savers as well as dozens of decks of playing cards, comic strip cutouts, and reading glasses. His love of history and people also led him to be a genealogy buff, often helping others learn so much more about their family history.

Bob cared deeply about people, often in unique ways. He never met a stranger and always had a dad joke at the ready. He donated 109 pints of blood at the Coffee Memorial Blood Center and made hundreds of dried cholla cactus crosses for friends and strangers alike. He thoughtfully chose special stamps for every card he sent, and often picked up meaningful treasures for friends and family members as he visited estate sales and antique stores. He was quick to welcome people with a smile, and will be missed for his long-winded stories.

Bob was also a servant. Since the early 1970s, he was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where over the years he served as usher, member of the vestry, treasurer and much more. He served as treasurer of the Gem and Mineral Club and was active in various gun organizations.

In his final short days, he never failed to thank every person who helped him, no matter his pain or procedure. He showed his daughters ultimate grace and love as he faced the most disheartening diagnosis.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife Jennifer and is survived by his daughters Dr. Rosalind V. Alderman and husband Gene, Rev. Dr. Carla E. Roland, and Caroline E. Brain and husband Larry; grandsons Evan and Andrew; sisters Carol E. King and Nancy Atkins and their families.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on December 3, 2021 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Amarillo, Texas, followed by a reception in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coffee Memorial Blood Center or St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Amarillo, or to a favorite dog rescue organization.
