Robert E. Sayers, 65, a lifelong resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at his home. Bob was born in Lowell on May 8, 1959, and was the son of the late Gail (O'Dea) Sayers and Robert E. Sayers.
Bob was a graduate of Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He worked for many years at Wang Laboratories (later Getronics) in Lowell, Massachusetts, and most recently at Aspen Technology in Burlington, MA. He was also a licensed real estate broker in Massachusetts for 45 years.
A college internship with the Lowell National Historical Park sparked an interest in genealogy, and Bob became an amateur genealogist and family archivist, who tirelessly researched his family's history and happily shared findings, photographs and artifacts with his large, extended family.
Bob loved music, especially the 20th Century American songbook, and was known for his ability to cite the most perfect song lyrics for almost any occasion. His love of language, especially long-forgotten idioms, expressions and archaic words, was well known.
He was also a lifelong collector who had an uncanny ability to find a replacement for even the most obscure lost or damaged treasure for family and friends. He took great pleasure searching for, buying and gifting the perfect antique or collectible.
Most of all, Bob was a collector of people who made and kept dear friends throughout his entire life - making regular phone calls, sending cards, letters and masses, attending lunches and dinners, and always lending a sympathetic ear and bringing with him a little red box from Mrs. Nelson's Candy House. He was unfailingly polite, exceedingly generous, infinitely kind, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was "Bobby" or "Uncle Bobby" to many and will be greatly missed by a diverse network of friends, neighbors, current and former co-workers, and a family of cousins who were more like siblings.
Bob is survived by his sister Maria S. Roginski (Thomas J. Roginski) of Chevy Chase, MD and brother Tyrone D. Sayers (Mark Finneran) of Boston. He also is survived by his nephews Daniel A. Roginski of Los Angeles, CA, and Michael O. Roginski of Chevy Chase, MD. He had a close-knit extended family including the Currie, McCartin, Connell, and Sayers relatives, and was especially close to his cousins Kathleen McCartin Evans, Catie Connell Nagle and Patricia Currie Loveday.
In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his beloved Aunts Patricia Currie, Mary Joy McCartin and Donna Connell.
Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to The Paul Center for Learning & Recreation, 39 Concord Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824 or to The Monastery of Saint Clare, 445 River Road, Andover, MA 01810 or to a charity of your choice.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 11 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CHURCH. Interment will be held privately.

Bobby was a beautiful soul. Selfless, giving and loving; a kind person, who lived life with a flourish. His generous goodness got embedded within others. He made his mark on the world and on me. I will miss him.

So, so sad to hear of Bob´s passing. Worked with him at Aspen Technology for over 10 years. So kind, generous and extremely intelligent. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. The world will be less bright without Bob.

Maria and Tyrone, I was sad to learn of Bobbys passing. Sean told me this evening. We both have fond memories of your family at Vesper. It seems like yesterday that we were all enjoying a swim. My deepest condolences and prayers for all of you.
