Obituary of Robert Joseph Sayles
On Sunday, June 4th, 2023, Robert Joseph Sayles (Age 77) passed away at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, ID. In May of 2018, Robert lost his wife, Marie (Let) Sayles and 5 months later on November of 2018, his daughter, Rochelle Le'Mire which he will now be rejoined with.
Robert was born in Cody, Wyoming on October 4, 1945. He was the son of Frank Levester Sayles and Alice Rose Norskog. He joined the Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Engineer Equipment Operator and could literally drive and operate any heavy equipment they had.
He left the Army and proceeded to fulfill his passion, which was driving truck. He logged countless miles picking up and delivering loads of freight from coast to coast with his brother, Thomas Sayles. He also drove truck in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska working on the pipeline and driving over the ice.
Eventually, he decided to give up driving truck and proceeded to follow the administrative side of trucking, which was dispatching. He was just as exceptional in this capacity as he was driving. Robert's desire to serve our country continued and he joined the National Guard and spent many years passing on the knowledge he had gained from his time in the Army.
Robert was heavily involved with the El Korah Shriners for many years. He did many fund raisers to help children with burn injuries and neuromusculoskeletal conditions. He was a part of the Blacklight Patrol and the Sand Duners just to name a few. While he was involved with the Shriners, his wife, Marie (Let), was dancing with the Eastern Star and son, Shane was also a part of DeMolay.
Robert had a huge heart and would be the first to offer friends or family help in any capacity he could. Because of this attribute, he had countless friends. Robert leaves behind his son, and son's wife, Shane and Corinne Sayles and granddaughters, Angela Huggins and Angelina Sayles, brother, Larry Sayles, niece, Kelly Sayles-Saviano, great nephew, Travis Sayles and great grandsons, Anthony Le'Mire and Georgie Alvarez and many other family/friends.
