Robert E. Scarborough, III, died November 10, 2025 at his home in Mason, Ohio following a brief illness. He was the husband of 55 years to Julia, father to Melissa Russo (Michael) and Jennifer Kuhel (Anthony), and grandfather to Dylan Berry, and Olivia, Anna and Josephine Kuhel. He was the older brother of Richard W. Scarborough Sr. and Jon Scarborough, and uncle to Richard Scarborough, Scott Scarborough and Michael Scarborough. Bob loved his family, his friends and his hometown of Cincinnati.
Bob was born on the Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Va., on December 11, 1944 to the late Mary Virginia (Jeanne) and Robert E. Scarborough, Jr. He grew up in Cincinnati’s Mt. Adams and Bond Hill neighborhoods and graduated from Woodward High School. A first-generation college graduate, Bob earned his BA, MBA and M.Ed from the University of Cincinnati. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and was stationed in the U.S. Taiwan Defense Command in Taipei, Taiwan. There, he met his wife, Julia Shen. The couple married on April 25, 1970 and raised their girls in Fairfield, Ohio.
Professionally, Bob was dedicated to creating career and technical training programs for high school students and adults, and workforce development programs for industry. In 1989, he began a 22-year career at Great Oaks as director of external operations. From 2006-2007, he served as the president of the national Association for Career and Technical Education. He retired from Great Oaks in 2011.
Bob enjoyed traveling (especially to Taipei and Las Vegas), spending time with friends around a card table or on the golf course, and staying up-to-date on current events, but his favorite pastime was being “Bobby” to his four grandchildren. He was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals.
