Robert Schlemmer Obituary

Robert W. Schlemmer Sr., 84, of Export (Washington Township), died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025. He was born June 18, 1941, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Leonard W. and Thelma R. (Corey) Schlemmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Charlene (Zarorsky) Schlemmer; and a brother, Gary Schlemmer. Bob was a graduate of Clarion College and a member of the Freemasons. He was a retired self-employed construction worker and served as deputy game commissioner for southwestern Pennsylvania, before becoming president of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, where he served on the Board of Directors for many years. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at his camp. He was proud to have ventured to the tip of South Africa and spent time in Canada, where he fostered many lifelong friendships. Bob was a member of Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ (Hill's Church) in Export and enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are his loving children, Robert W. (Judy) Schlemmer Jr. and Debra Ann "Missy" (Chris) Marin; grandchildren, Helen (James) Vought, Robert W. Schlemmer III, Dawson Marin, and Karleigh Marin; a brother, Dave (Janine) Schlemmer; and a great-grandchild on the way. Respecting Bob's wishes, services were private. WOLFE-VON GEIS FUNERAL HOME INC., Export, assisted the family with funeral arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions in Bob's name to the Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, 3618 Hills Church Road, Export, PA 15632. Love the photo of Bob. He was extremely proud of his service to the Pennsylvania Game Commission as a deputy and member of the Board of Game Commissioners. Bob traveled with my family to Ireland and we had an outstanding time. I served on the PGC Board with Bob for eight years and was so honored to serve with him. He was a great teacher and mentor. The flagpole at his house with the PGC flag was his proud and joy but not as nearly as proud as he was of his family. Every conversation I had with Bob his family was always part of the dialogue. His family always was number 1. His hunting heritage was so strong and he truly believed in conservation. I was blessed to know Bob and valued the time we served together.
Rest in peace my friend and know you made this world a better place.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Mr. Schlemmer was an amazing man. I will never forget our conversations around the wood stove at camp. He loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Finish out your journeys in a way that will keep him smiling.
