Robert Secovnie Obituary

Secovnie, Robert "Bob" Thomas
VALATIE - Robert "Bob" Thomas Secovnie, 77, of Valatie, N.Y., passed away on November 3, 2025. Born on April 23, 1948, in Albany, N.Y., Bob was the beloved son of the late Thomas and Mary Celelli Secovnie. He grew up in Schodack Landing, N.Y., where his lifelong appreciation for family, community, and hard work, began to take shape.
Bob was a former Schodack Landing fireman, where he received the Medal of Valor for his bravery and service. He was also a former Army Reservist, and a proud member of the Kinderhook Elks, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. Dedicated to helping others and serving his community, Bob lived a life guided by loyalty, compassion, and a strong sense of duty.
Professionally, Bob was formerly an insurance agent, and later became a key administrator in the N.Y.S. Insurance Department. He went on to own and operate Insurance Training Institute, where he built a respected career marked by integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to helping others succeed in their professions.
In 1975, Bob married the love of his life, Donna, beginning a partnership filled with devotion and shared adventures that spanned five decades. Together they raised three children, Katie Matos (Ernesto), Kevin Secovnie, and Thomas Secovnie (Rachael). His family has always been his greatest source of pride. He was also the loving brother of Edward (Sue) Secovnie. Bob's joy continued to grow with the arrival of his cherished grandchildren, Olivia and Sofia Matos and Cameron Secovnie, each of whom brought immense happiness to his life. Bob is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and cousins, of whom he adored; as well as his sisters and brothers-in-law.
Bob was an avid supporter of the New York Yankees, enjoyed spending time at the racetrack, and treasured his time hunting in the mountains. He was a dear friend to many in the Valatie area, as well as at his residences in Diamond Point N.Y., and Redington Beach, Fla.
Known for his caring nature, generosity, and love for those around him, Bob touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Robert will be deeply missed and loved forever.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 9 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Church, Rt. 9, Valatie. Burial will follow in the church's cemetery. Friends are invited and may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Bob's name, or simply take a moment to extend a kindness to someone in need-just as he so often did.

Yesterday

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Bob..He was such a nice man.Remembering the time spent with him back in the political days when he came to Taghkanic to deliver cookies to the poll workers and wasn't sure how to get to Elizaville! It was fun day.He told the folks they were homemade cookies that he had taken out of boxes and wrapped in cellophane LOL..we got a laugh out of that. He also invited us to the swearing in of Mario Cuomo as Gov. during that time period.
Also enjoyed meeting up with him at Saratoga on occasion and he loved to share a tip on a horse. RIP Bob ..many good memories.
