Reverend Robert Henry Sharp, age 89, of Rock Falls died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at CGH Medical Center surrounded by his family. Robert was born March 7, 1923 in Rock Falls, the son of William and Nancy (Lewis) Sharp. He married Glenda V. Rippy on November 12, 1942 in Wayland, MO, she died June 12, 2004. Robert served in the US Army and was in World War II and the Pacific Theater. He was a Co-founder of the GI Gospel Hour. Robert was a master carpenter for all his life, a member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters, and the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society. He also was an Elder and Retired Evangelist of the 1st Church of the Nazarene. Robert also served as Pastor and Interim Pastor for the Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include three daughters; Reta (Vern) Hussung-Smoot of Sterling, Cathy (Dennis) Hadley of Milledgeville, and Rachel (Steven) Wilcoxen of Baltimore, MD, three sons; Terry (Judy) Sharp of Oswego, Steven Sharp of Sterling, and James (Cheryl) Sharp of Rock falls, five sisters; Hilda Elaine Sills of Sterling, Mary Edith Ellis of Rock Falls, Florence Catherine Mead of Tennessee, Shirley Alice Moffitt of Texas, and Glenda Kay Satter White of Idaho, three brothers, Warren Sharp of Sterling, Jim Sharp of Michigan, and Gerald (Virginia) Sharp of Rock Falls, fourteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Glenda, five sisters; Martha, Fredda, Rita, Dorothy, and Marie, and two brothers; Raymond and Glenn; and son-in-law Ronald Hussung. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral service will be Friday at 10AM at the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling. Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the First Church of the Nazarene and the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society.
