Robert Shaunessy Obituary
Affectionately known as Shag, he grew up in North Attleboro and graduated from North Attleboro High School. Shag attended Harvard University and was proud to be captain of the football team in 1958, graduated in 1959 and was inducted in the football hall of fame in 1984. He then attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) where he was commissioned into the United States Navy, were proudly served. Shag was an avid sports fan, especially hockey and dedicated many of his years coaching. He loved to travel with his wife and spend time skiing and in the outdoors.
Devoted father of Scott Shaunessy and his wife Jeanne, Steven Shaunessy and his wife Carianne and Sloan Coulter and her husband Robert. He is beloved by his grandchildren, Caroline and Julia Shaunessy, Kelsie and Thomas Shaunessy and Keegan and Kealy Coulter. Loving son of the late Thomas and Ruth (Lynds) Shaunessy and beloved brother of the late Beverly Rousseau and her late husband Russell and the late Doreen Sadowski. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and his beloved cat Pumpkin.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a Funeral Mass celebrating Robert, at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading on Friday, Oct 7th, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. Military honors will conclude the service. There are no visiting hours and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Shag's Memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452 or at www.alz.org.

I played football with Shag at Harvard and have very fond memories of him and others such as Peter Briggs.

I was fortunate to have played football with Shag at Harvard. He, along with our former colleague Peter Briggs, were the keys to many successful games. My sincere condolences to his family. Warren Huff (AB '59)
