Robert Charles Sizemore
1953 - 2025
- Robert Charles Sizemore peacefully passed away October 29, 2025, in Buena Vista, Virginia, at the age of 72. He passed at home with his wife, Marsha, daughter, Melissa, and son, Jacob, to the sound of sweet memories and soft guitar music.
He was born on July 13, 1953, in Vernal, UT to Charles Austin Sizemore and Nellie Mary (Mae) Kloeppel Sizemore. As a child, Robert grew up in the community of Rose Park, UT where he was involved in choir, played football, and was in a band with friends. After graduating from West High School in 1971, Robert served in the Georgia Atlanta mission from 1974 - 1976. He married the love of his life and eternal companion in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1977. He earned his BA in Education/Economics from the University of Utah in 1979, where he played football for the Utes. He went on to earn his MPA from BYU in 1986.
Robert and Marsha raised their growing family throughout the Salt Lake City, UT, Walnut Creek, CA, Jackson, WY and Wake Forest, NC areas, where they had many family adventures and made friends everywhere they lived. During this time Robert continued to broaden his work in Healthcare Financial Management and teaching, often traveling to places like New York, Florida, Texas, St Thomas and Abu Dhabi. These pursuits inspired him to obtain a DHA from the University of Phoenix in 2008 where he had taught as a professor.
Robert was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved teaching adult Sunday School. He served in various Ward and Stake positions where he could share his love of the scriptures and Christ's teachings. Robert quietly served others, without recognition or praise. His compassion showed in small, unseen moments where he put others before himself and gave freely from his heart to bring comfort to those in need. His life was a reflection of the Savior's love in action, which is how he raised his children; to love others and to always give what you can, when you can.
Robert loved spending time outdoors with his family. He'd often pack up the family's Suburban to go camping for the weekend, or trek his sons to the mountains for scouting adventures. Robert loved having a full house, enjoying many years as a devoted sports dad. He coached and cheered his children in football, soccer, track, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, and boxing. Robert also had a great love for music and reading. He sang in the church choir and passed on his love for music by encouraging and supporting all of his children in musical pursuits. From attending countless choir, band, and orchestra concerts to jamming on guitars in the garage, he was always their biggest fan.
Robert hiked with his kids and grandkids from coast to coast. His grandchildren called him "Papa" and he loved spending time with them. At heart, Robert was a family man through and through and he gave each of his children an outstanding example of what it means to be a devoted and loving Husband, Father and Disciple of Christ.
In his later years Robert suffered from Alzheimer's which limited his activity. He spent his last years peacefully at home with Marsha in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Nanette Starks.
Survived by his wife of 49 years Marsha Doane; his only daughter, Melissa, and sons, Robert (Brittany), Michael (Aimee), Steven (Stephanie), John (Melissa), Jacob (Alison), Thomas (Katherine); 11 beautiful granddaughters and 13 dashing grandsons. Also by his brother, Ken (Michelle) Sizemore, and brother in-law Joseph Starks, Nanette's husband.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Gentiva and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care.
