Robert Ronald Slagle, age 84, of McRae Court in Spruce Pine, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 7, 1941 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Guy Emmitt and Lois Grindstaff Slagle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Blanche Stanley.
Robert was a member and deacon of the Grassy Creek Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Korea. He retired from Henredon Furniture of Spruce Pine following twenty-five years of service.
Robert loved camping at Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach. He was an avid U.N.C. Tar Heels basketball fan. He enjoyed cutting firewood. He also enjoyed going to vintage car shows and riding his four wheeler. He was the proud owner of a 1955 Chevrolet truck and a 1939 Chevrolet car.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty-four years; Brenda Hodge Slagle of the home, his son; Michael Slagle and wife, Tina of Spruce Pine, his granddaughters; Emilee Slagle and Elaina S. Brown and husband, Casey, and his great granddaughters; Raelynn and Harper Brown.
The funeral service for Robert Slagle will be Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Nathan Silver, Larry Greene, and Dr. Rocky Branch officiating. The family will receive friends at Grassy Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Military Honors will be provided by Sgt. E. L. Randolph Chapter #54 D.A.V.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their care and concern for Robert during his illness.
Mr. Slagle’s arrangements have been entrusted to Beam Funeral Service and Crematory in Marion.
