Robert Smith Obituary

Robert Smith, known throughout his life as "Bob" or "Smitty", passed away at his home in Winston-Salem on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after a long battle with COPD and Lung Cancer. His final hours were spent in his favorite room, the sunroom, where he spent his days in retirement reading, and watching the many birds that frequented his feeders.
Bob was born in Newark, N.J., where he came to Thomas G and Nancy (nee' Bettinson) Smith as a young infant. He cherished their love as wonderful parents and grandparents.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Jacquelin, and their three children, Jeffrey Butler Smith and Robin Andrea Smith, of Raleigh, and Scott Robert Smith, of Winston-Salem, all of whom loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.
Bob completed college at Upsala College, East Orange, N.J., after which he served seven years in the US Army Reserve.
His tremendous work ethic and dedication to his family kept him working and traveling the world in the plastics industry until the age of 81. Along the way, he forged many lifelong friendships with fond memories of all.
When not at work, Bob enjoyed traveling with his family, surf and fly fishing, enjoying many fine restaurants, and quenching his quest for knowledge in countless books, periodicals and newspapers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. A private graveside service will be held.
