Robert Lee Smith, affectionately known as Bob or Smitty, left us peacefully on November 5, 2025, after a long illness. He was 64 years old.
Born on August 21, 1961, in Bay Village, Ohio, Robert was raised in Wellington and proudly graduated from Wellington High School. His dedication to service led him to a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy, where he excelled as an aviation mechanic. After his military service, he continued to serve his community at FRC at NAS Jacksonville, demonstrating the unwavering integrity and loyalty that defined his character.
Beyond his professional achievements, Robert was a source of joy and laughter for those who knew him. His playful spirit, sense of humor, and caring nature could brighten anyone’s day. A true lover of life, Robert had a passion for sports, history, music, and reading, but above all, he cherished his deep faith in God and the bonds he forged with his family and friends. His love for football was matched only by his affection for those he held dear.
In his personal life, Robert was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Patty, sharing 39 wonderful years together filled with love and laughter. He was a proud father to two daughters, Deanna Smith Castillo (Steve) and Hillary Smith, and a beloved grandfather to six grandchildren: Dustin, Steven, Patricia, Josie, Trey, and Devin, along with one great-grandchild, Kingston. Each of them carries a piece of his heart, ensuring his memory will forever live on.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Harriett Phyllis Smith, and is survived by his father, James Smith, along with his brothers Edward (Lori) and Michael (Michelle).
As we remember Robert, we honor his remarkable legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His spirit continues to inspire those he touched with his kindness and warmth. Robert Lee Smith will be profoundly missed but never forgotten, for his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.
