Robert Smith Obituary

Robert E. Smith, 83, passed away Dec. 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East Hwy 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan 1, 2026, at the funeral home and one hour before services on Friday.

Robert was born April 30, 1942, in Towanda, IL. to Robert and Evon Smith. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1959 to 1963.

On July 6, 1963, Robert married the love of his life, Carolyn Davis, and together they raised three daughters.

He was a member of Decatur Carpenters Union #742 for 38 years. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Decatur; a member of the American Legion; and served on the Macon County Honor guard.

He was father to Renee Whightsil (Richard); Michelle Likins (Dennis); and Theresa Dillard (Robert). He was the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and seven great grand-children.

He is survived by two brothers: Ben Smith and Alvin Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, three siblings, and three step-siblings.

Punk will always be Punky to me. As a little girl I don't think I even knew his name was Robert. He was just my cousin who we all played with when we got together. Especially at our Family reunions. He had the biggest heart and will be missed by so many. My prayers will be with you and family as you move through this difficult time.
