Dear Jane,
It was my privilege to know you and work with you, and on a special occasion to meet your husband at a luncheon at your home. Both of you made a great contribution to children and families in the Martinsville area. My deepest sympathy to you and your family in the loss of this fine man.

Dear Jane and family, I am saddened by reading of Bobs passing, and I hope you will take comfort in knowing that he is now with God.
Bob and I had many happy hours building the boat "Ginny" and I will always remember him with great fondness.

To the Family of Robert Henkel Spilman Sr.,

I know that Mr. Spilman was one of the most respected customers that Orvis has ever had. His patronage, support and friendliness were legendary at our Richmond store. I have asked our associates to put together a letter of celebration of what he brought into their lives. They have shared that with me and I would like to share it with you.

With lasting warm regards,

Perk Perkins, CEO

We, here at the Orvis Co., would like to offer you our condolences over the loss of Mr. Spilman.. We are often blessed with strong friendships with our customers; Mr. Spilman was certainly one of those unique friends we loved to see come through our doors. He always had beautiful stories to share with our associates, and invaluable advice to impart, especially with our younger employees.
We appreciate all of what Mr. Spilman accomplished throughout his life; from his service as an Army Officer in W.W.II and the Korean War, to his success as a business man and humanitarian leader. We can only hope that our lives will be graced by more men like him.
Rarely does a soul come into our lives so gently, yet they leave a profound influence in their wake. Again, we are sorry for the loss of such a great man and friend.

With Kindest Regards,

His Friends and Orvis

Dear Jane and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Bob was a legend in his own time and such a gentlemen. I remember with great fondness the Wednesday family nights at Bassett Country Club. It meant so much to take mother there to visit with your family and the rest of the community.

I send you my thoughts and prayers of comfort.

Sincerely,
Lynn Kitson Ward

My family came to know Bob in the early 1970s. He quickly became a close friend to us. Even though it has been many years since we have seen Bob, our memories of the bonds develop those many years ago are extraordinary. Bob made our lives richer by his presense.

Dear Jane and Bob, Jr. and the rest of the family, my prayers are with you as you process this BIG transition in your lives. May you always feel God's presence.
Bob was always so gracious to me at Bassett Furniture meetings or where ever I saw him. He always answered my questions whether by mail or in person. I certainly appreciated Bob.
