Robert Stankey

Robert Thomas Stankey of Sullivan, MO departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, having reached the age of seventy-eight years, eleven months and twenty-seven days. Robert was born in St. Louis, MO on July 30, 1946, son of Robert Stankey and Evelyn Stankey nee Gentili. On November 18, 1977 he was united in marriage to Effie Margaret Hicks and two children came to bless this union. Robert is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Casey and husband, Andrew, of Eureka, MO; by his brother-in-law, Al Hicks and wife, Judy, of Hillsboro, MO; by five grandchildren, Gary Miller, Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Imperial, MO, Timothy Miller of Pacific, MO, Thomas Miller and wife, Becky, of Eureka, MO, Melissa Barnoski and husband, Denny of Eureka, MO and Christopher Shoemate and wife, Christina, of Imperial, MO; by his great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Luke, Ryan, Maximus, Kayli, Garin, Gemma, Audri and Abella; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn Stankey; by his wife, Effie Stankey; by his son, Darren Shoemate Sr. and his infant son; by his brother, James Stankey; and by one grandson, Darren Shoemate, Jr. Robert was a Christian and believed in the Lord as his Savior. During his working career he was employed by Fred Weber Construction as a mechanic, serving the company for over ten years. He loved working outdoors, whether in the yard or in the garden. Robert enjoyed woodworking and had built various things for the family, including shelves, picture frames, toy boxes and rocking chairs. He loved to go hunting and fishing also, but what meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 4, 2025 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Raymond Laramore officiating. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park in St. Clair, MO. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
