Bob - what can you say? He was a force to be reckoned with! I went to Port Arthur at a vulnerable time in my career when I was convinced the Coast Guard wasn't for me. The Planning shop, and Bob in particular, pulled me under his wing, trained me in ICS, took baby steps with me through some pretty crazy hurricanes and oil spills, and made the Coast Guard fun again. He saw things in me I didn't know about myself and never faltered in his support. I have so much respect for Bob, for the passion he exuded for the Coast Guard and the mission, and I've returned to his lessons and advice time and time again throughout my life and career. I will forever be grateful to him for his influence, for making the Service "magical" for me again. May he rest in peace.

As many of my fellow Coasties will state, Bob taught us a great deal. He personally walked me through the Incident Management System while I was stationed at MSU Port Arthur, and taught me all things Planning. More importantly, he trusted me once I was qualified and empowered me to handle the mission with confidence. Fair winds, brother - We have the watch.

Truly enjoyed working with Bob at MSU Port Arthur when I returned back in 2005. Bob was smart, seasoned, and did not hesitate to speak truth to power and boldly do what was right. Beautiful man. Beautiful life. RIP Bob. New Coasties that you trained have the watch. r, rob d.

Bob, we met in 1970 at MMA. We spent the year together as part of 4 Div. in Lt Pikes Raiders. Over the next three years we would see each other less frequently until we went our separate ways at graduation. But in May 2023 we had lunch together at the OTLB luncheon and we talked like it was only yesterday that we were hiding from some festering upper jobs in the FWD fan room! You gave it a good "Old School" fight. We will miss you. Fair winds Shipmate.

May you rest in peace. As a member of the MMA class of 1974 you hold a special place in my heart. John Quirk
