Robert J. Steiner, 93, of Sebille Road, Smithfield, passed away on December 28th in Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the husband of the late Eleanor I. (Walling) Steiner. They had been married for 19 years before her passing on October 11, 2011.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Marian Steiner. He had lived in Smithfield for 64 years previously living in Providence.

He had worked with Penn Central Railroad and Amtrack before retiring in 1972. He honorably served in the United States army 1946-48.

He was a member of the Smithfield Elks Club. He treasured spending time with his family. He loved nature and long walks in the woods and being at the ocean.

He leaves his sons, Michael Steiner of Rehoboth, MA, Conrad Steiner of Tamarac, FL, Robert Steiner of Plainfield, CT, Karl Steiner of Cranston, RI and Joseph Steiner of Danielson, CT. He was a grandfather to 8 and great-grandfather to 6 and beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of Joseph Steiner of Scituate, Genevieve Favali of Warwick and Geraldine Judge of Rockledge, FL. He was the brother of the late Dorothy O'Toole.

His funeral was private.
