With joyful hearts, we announce the entrance to his new home with our Lord and Savior, our beloved father, Robert "Jerry" Stewart, 86, of Tyler, Texas on May 2, 2023.
Jerry was born to Robert and Ethel Stewart on September 25, 1936 in Brady Texas. He was one of seven children. He graduated from Snyder High School where he lettered in band. He was area council president of the youth ministries. He met the love of his life at Avenue D Baptist church. They were later married there on July 3, 1955. With a servant's heart, Jerry was ordained a Baptist minister at the same church.
Jerry's very strong work ethic began at age 13 and continued until he was no longer able to work. Over the years he worked in managerial positions for JC Penney's, Hancock Fabrics, and Bealls. He always made time to pastor small churches as well. After retiring at 62, Jerry still felt the call to help the elderly. He started a moving company and always enjoyed meeting many interesting people.
Jerry is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 62 years Betty Jean Stewart, parents Robert and Ethel Stewart, five sisters, and two brothers. He is survived by daughter, Penny Ward and son-in- law, Chriss Ward of Kingwood, Texas; daughter, Robin Hunt and son-in-law, Travis Hunt of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Jeremy Ward of Kingwood, Holly and Jonathan Franks of Aubrey, Barrett and Claire Hunt of Longview, and Connor Hunt of Tyler; great-grandchildren, Kinley Ward of Kingwood and George Hunt of Longview.
A private burial will be held in Snyder, Texas at a later time.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff of Primrose Retirement Community for the excellent care and friendship. A special thanks to Debra and Sylvia.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
