One could easily say that Robert Stone was fortunate enough to have achieved success in life. He became an achieved author, chose a long-time complement, and fathered children to carry on his name. Although death of a loved one can cause bouts of sadness, allow yourselves to be uplifted by the promises of endless life with perfect health surrounded by people who truly love you. My condolences!

A blazing soul here and in eternity. I spoke to him at the Miami Political Writing Conference in 1991, as well as taught his work. His essays should not be missed.RIP

I was fortunate enough to study with Bob at Amherst College in the early 70s. A gentle and helpful teacher, his most instructive lessons grew out of his beautiful novels. The world is a lesser place without him and my heart goes out to Janice and his family.

My condolences to the family. He was understandably a troubled youth but fortunately he found writing to be a way of getting through sad memories. May he rest in peace and may God comfort you during this difficult time.

Stone was a giant. I will never forget how fired I was by the ideas behind the movie 'Who'll Stop the Rain' which was based on Stone's 'Dog Soldiers' and was my introduction to his work. I have recently had the time to re-read some of his novels and 'A Flag for Sunrise' still stuns me. No writer has come to mean more to me than Robert Stone over the past 30-plus years. I had the opportunity to hear him speak a few times (in Northampton, Mass. and at Wesleyan University) years ago and am so glad I did. I cannot begin to express how much I will miss his viewpoints on the world we live in. His words have lived inside me for so long and have become a part of my life.
