Robert Charles Taplin, Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on February 2, 1949, in Waco to parents, David Taplin and Bernice Cleaver Taplin, Robert lived a life rich with purpose and dedication, touching the hearts of many.
A graduate of Los Angeles High School, Robert ventured into various careers that showcased his hardworking spirit and versatility. He initially served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1969, where he honorably served before returning to civilian life. His professional journey included a managerial position at Sears in Los Angeles, tenure as a crane operator at Davis Iron Works, and a decade-long commitment to the U.S. Postal Service, from where he ultimately retired..
Robert was known for his laid-back demeanor, combined with a patient and instructive nature. He took tremendous pride in his work and appearance, always striving to be a good role model for his family. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of working on cars, which became a family bonding experience. Robert also had a passion for barbecuing, especially ribs, and confidently considered himself a "Pit Master”. He was also quite adept at shooting pool, often participating in tournaments..
Throughout his life, Robert held dear memories of family trips to Port Aransas, which brought him immense joy. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and delighted in watching old Westerns such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
His family remembers him fondly for his infectious laugh and memorable smile. Robert's proudest accomplishments were being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, roles he embraced wholeheartedly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ida Taplin; his three sons, Kenneth McGinnis, Robert Taplin, Jr., and David Taplin; a special sister-in-law, Lorine Swindell (Dennis); 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
