Robert A. Tempest, 88, of Scipio, passed away at 12:12 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born October 19, 1936, in Bartholomew County, He was the son of the late Forrest and Neva (Robertson) Tempest. He married Carolyn Sue Rudicel on July 2, 1966, at the Waynesburg Christian Church in Decatur County; she survives.
Robert was a 1955 graduate of Decatur County Schools and served in the United States Air Force. He went to work as a office-planner and designer for Cummins Engine Company retiring on May 1, 1996 after 41 years. Robert was a lifelong farmer. He was a member and Past Master of the Alert Masonic Lodge in Alert and a member of Christ Way Christian Church in North Vernon where he was the former treasurer for 41 years. He enjoyed farming, tractors, and mowing grass.
Surviving with his wife of 58 years, Sue, is his son, Brian (Heather) Tempest of North Vernon; grandchildren, Kaylie (Robert) Eder of North Vernon, Kyle Tempest of Columbus, Emily (Ryan) Jenkins of Butlerville, Colton (Kaylin) Castetter of North Vernon and Jagur Marshall of Scipio; and great-grandchildren, Eleanor Eder and Mason Eder, both of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joe and Mark Tempest.
A funeral service for Robert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Robert through the funeral home to the Christ Way Christian Church or Our Hospice of Jennings County.
