Robert Meredith Tripp

Robert Meredith Tripp, a man defined by his unwavering consistency, deep faith, and an extraordinary work ethic, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of selfless service and a sprawling, devoted family. Known affectionately as “Bob,” “Buddy,” and “Dad,” his life was a testament to the power of showing up every day for the people he loved.

A Life of Dedication and Service

Raised in humble circumstances, Robert was determined to build a better life for his own family. He achieved this through decades of disciplined labor and a quiet, steady resolve. Whether he was working in his LDS Social Services office supporting clients, tirelessly tending to his legendary vegetable gardens, or serving faithfully in his church, Robert approached every task with integrity and a “shoulder to the wheel” mentality. His children remember him with shovel in hand—a man who used a shovel not just to plant sustenance for his family, but as a tool to teach the value of hard work and persistence. Beyond his physical labor, he was a historian, author, and scholar who instilled a deep love for family and country in his children.

A Pillar of Support

Robert was the ultimate provider and caretaker. He was a constant fixture at his children’s wrestling matches and football games, always ready with a hug or a high-pitched cheer from the crowd. His hands were used for more than just labor; they were calming hands used to pronounce tender priesthood blessings and “trustworthy hands” that taught his children how to swim and navigate the fears of life. He was known for his “Kenny and Poochy” stories, his unmatched ability to scoop the perfect ice cream cone, and his tradition of warming up the home on cold winter mornings for his children. In times of need, he was the first to offer tangible support, often sending money or organizing help for his children and grandchildren even when he had little for himself.

Family Legacy

Family was Robert's greatest success. He was a successful father of 10, a grandfather to 26, and a great-grandfather to 17. He remained steadfast in his marriage, viewing his commitment to his wife as a sacred duty to be seen through to the end.

Robert is survived by his wife, Penny Ashton; his ten children, sons: John Emron, Joseph Luram, James Omer, David Emer, Thomas Jarom, Robert Aaron, and Michael Adam; daughters, Mary Ellen, Gennie May, and Emily Ann; and his siblings, Terry, Bruce, Berthyl, and Ladd.

His life was beautifully summarized in his own humble words: “I tried.” To those who knew him, he did far more than try—he succeeded in every way that truly mattered. “Whatever will happen in our lives, we will always be 'family' in this life and throughout eternity... Keep Tripp’n!”

Services

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
