Robert Valdez

Robert Morin Valdez, Sr., age 77, of Runge, Texas, entered into eternal rest on September 26, 2025, in Runge. He was born on July 1, 1948, in Helena, Texas, to Andres Valdez, Sr. and Brijida Morin Valdez.

Robert was a proud graduate of Karnes City High School. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served two tours in Vietnam. For his bravery, he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his military service, Robert went on to work for Valero, Zachry, and Wackenhut, where he was honored as Employee of the Year prior to his retirement. Robert loved the ranch life, enjoyed barbecuing, and treasured time spent sharing cold drinks and laughter with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Margarito (Josie) Valdez, Simon (Lola) Valdez, Andres (Beatrice) Valdez, Jr., Pedro (Crescencia) Valdez, Sr., Lorenzo Valdez, Eloy Valdez; and sisters, Otilia (Trini) Moreno and Eloise Valdez.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Eloisa Salas Valdez of Runge; his children, Michelle (Miguel) Manzano of Sinton, Valerie Valdez of George West, and Robert (Justine) Valdez, Jr. of Kenedy; stepchildren, Priscilla (David) Fraga of Runge, Jennifer Barrientez of Victoria, Jessica (Roger Reyes) Salas of Adkins, Anthony (Stephanie) Serrano of Runge, and Veronica Serrano of Runge; brother, Lupe (Marie) Valdez of Karnes City; grandchildren, Ray (Leti) Hernandez of Karnes City, Lorenzo "Tre" (Aileen) Salinas of Pawnee, Leandra (Demetrio Sosa) Salinas of Kenedy, David (Megan) Fraga of Runge, Lacie (Dustin) Fraga of Runge, DJ (Audrianne) Tidwell of Karnes City, and Joseph (Makaylah) Tidwell of San Antonio; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City, followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City. Interment will follow at Helena Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Perez, Larry Leal, Ray Hernandez, DJ Tidwell, David Fraga, and Derek Barrientez. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Busselman, Leo Janysek, Edwin Pieprzica, Curtis Mueller, Tracey Schendel, Sylvester Reyes, Nando Salinas, and John Noone.

Robert will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud veteran, and cherished friend. His legacy of strength, kindness, and dedication to family will live on through all who knew and loved him.
