Last night (Feb. 16, 2025) was the 50th Anniversary Celebration of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL). It was a 4-hour, 15-minute show recapping 50 years of television history! Toward the end of the program, special attention was given to technical crew, including Bob Van Ry whose long-time career as stage manager with SNL was honored with a comment, "Thanks, Bobby Van Ry" and a photo of him! How exciting! If you saw it, it was a thrill! Bob would have been thrilled to have seen the appreciation and recognition for all his years of managing a huge cast of comedians...very special!

I have so many wonderful memories working with Bobby at SNL. He and Joe (Dicso) were an amazing team and the first SM´s I ever worked with. Bob was very particular about the set being in perfect order for camera. He was on the move straightening the furniture, rotating a lamp, fluffing the flags & curtains. It got to the point I´d purposely leave things a little off knowing he´d take care of it and how much he enjoyed doing it. Whenever he´d point at something out of place and jump in to fix it, I´d just smile. My condolences to his family, he will be in my thoughts with love and gratitude.

To the Van Ry Family, we offer our deepest sympathy on the loss of your Uncle Bob. He treasured you as his children and played an important role within the family. I met Bob when he joined the North Jersey Chorus. At the time, both Bob and his brother Hank were members of the Bass and Tenor sections, respectively. Bob sang with the chorus for many, many years and acted as stage manager for our concerts! We honor his long life of professional accomplishments. Sincerely, Martha and Ike Young
