With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Robert (Bob) Jay Waber, age 71, who passed away on December 8, 2025-a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son and friend. Bob left this world surrounded by the family he cherished, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and unwavering devotion.
Bob was the beloved husband of Lucinda (Sue) Waber, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was built on loyalty, laughter, and a deep, steady love that only grew stronger with time. Sue was not only his wife, but his closest companion, and their bond was admired by all who knew them.
He was the proud father of Tammy (Joe) and Deb, who will forever carry his gentle wisdom, steady humor, and unconditional love. Bob adored his grandkids-Justin, Brandon, Kailey, and Cooper-and his great-grandkids, Layla and Robert. His playful spirit shone brightest around children, and he loved being part of their laughter and adventures, which brought endless joy to his life. Their smiles, stories, and energy were among his greatest treasures.
Bob was born to Mary and Guy and grew up in Galesburg, he was born ninth in a family of twelve, surrounded by love, laughter, and the strong bonds that shaped the man he became. He was preceded in death by his siblings Butch, Vern, Sally, and Helen, and is survived by John, Lee, Candy, Cindy, Linda, Billie, and Bonni, who will continue to honor his memory.
Bob worked for many years as a supervisor at a factory, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, fairness, and genuine care for the people around him. He led with humility and heart-qualities that defined him throughout his life. He formed lifelong friendships with co-workers and many of his colleagues became like family to him.
Outside of work, Bob found joy in the things that fueled his spirit. He loved riding his motorcycle, embracing the freedom and peace of the open road. He also had a special passion for old cars, appreciating their craftsmanship, history, and the memories they carried. He was a man of faith and lived his life helping others. He was known for his playful, youthful spirit, Bob never truly wanted to grow up, and he cherished every opportunity to laugh, explore, and make memories with those around him.
Though Bob's passing leaves a profound emptiness, the love he shared and the memories he created will continue to shine brightly. His steady presence, warm hugs, and kind heart will be cherished forever by all who knew him.
