Robert "Bob" Leo Walderbach, 83, of Anamosa/Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025.
Born on February 9, 1942, in Anamosa, Iowa, Bob was the son of Raymond and Ellen (Grabbe) Walderbach. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1960 and went on to attend cosmetology school in Cedar Rapids, launching a lifelong career that would touch countless lives.
Bob was a beloved hairdresser for 50 years at his cherished salon, Guys 'N Dolls. His talent and warmth made him a fixture in the community and a trusted friend to generations of clients. In addition to his work behind the chair, Bob also enjoyed a successful career as a realtor for over two decades. Even after retiring from those roles, he continued to serve others through various positions at Hy-Vee.
A dedicated community leader, Bob gave generously of his time and energy. He served on numerous boards and committees throughout Anamosa, including the Anamosa Ambulance Board, Jones County Regional Hospital Board, Anamosa Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Community Center Committee, and the Parish Council at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. His commitment to civic life reflected his deep love for his hometown and its people.
Bob shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his wife Bonnie Sue (Goldsmith) Walderbach. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. He was a devoted father to Denise (and Mark Cornille), Dan (and Angie Walderbach), and Nicole (and Cole Duke). His grandchildren-Nick McKenzie, Alexandria Cornille, Kylie Walderbach, Sophia Walderbach, Lyndsie and Austin Smeltzer, and Kaden Perrenoud-were the light of his life. Known affectionately as "Poppy," Bob was their biggest cheerleader and constant source of joy.
He is also remembered with love by his siblings Phyllis Fiala, Tom Walderbach, Michael (and Gail Walderbach), Kris Walderbach, sisters-in-law JoAnn Walderbach and Jane Walderbach. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dick Walderbach, William Walderbach, and David Walderbach.
Outside of work and service commitments, Bob found great joy in gardening alongside Bonnie. Their garden was not only beautiful but also a reflection of their shared care and creativity. He was also an active member of the Starlighters Theater in Anamosa for many years-a place where he could share his vibrant spirit with others.
Bob will be remembered as a generous soul with an infectious sense of humor and just the right amount of orneriness to keep everyone smiling. A friend to all who met him and a pillar of support to those he loved most deeply-his legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be determined.
May Bob's memory continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.

Bob was a faithful Anamosa guy even tho he spent time in Mt Pleasant with Bonnie. He was so active in Anamosa community events and his acting in Starlighters was one to remember. RIP dear Bob.

I am so very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was such a wonderful guy and did such good things for Starlighters. If memory serves correctly he worked on an original musical, "I Hear a Melody," and helped create several "BobDonnarino" shows. He was always willing to give time and energy graciously.

My condolences to all. Bob was such a warm person with a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh. So many good times at the theater.
My favorite memory is him dressed as Santa´s Elf (Alvin?)in one of the Christmas shows. Makes me smile just to think of him walking on to the stage in that costume.
What a wonderful guy.
