My condolences for your loss.
I met Bob at Nutmeg Division train meets. He was a soft spoken, nice guy, and our unofficial Division photographer. I feel lucky to have known him.
I wish I had known he also loved astronomy! I've always enjoyed following that science and the breathtaking images. We could have shared that, too.

my friend, my buddy. we go way back to grammar school. since we lived near each other, we walked home nearly every day. we spoke about the day's happenings, about our hobbies and much more. as i found out later, your mother was my future and current wife's ( donna donlon ) scout leader. she had many fond memories of your wonderful mother, her compassion and love of scouting. as the years passed we never saw much of each other. when we met up a few years ago, you invited me to join up with the n m r a train club in your hometown. we spent many hours swapping stories about our love of model trains. at a train show last year, we met up. to my surprise you spoke of the cancer you had contracted. your courage and your concern for others, even though you were the one fighting this terrible disease, lifted a weight from my shoulders. we stayed in contact and even had breakfast a few months ago. i told you when i was home alone, i shed tears for you. i also offered you help and to lend an ear, if needed. i also said i would be there for you, only a phone call away. even though you never took me up on my offer, i was shocked and hurt by your passing. i feel bad because i wanted to be there if you needed anything, i feel empty inside because i lost a childhood friend. you left a lot of things on the table that you wanted to do. in closing, i can say you were a good friend. i will always look on our friendship that stood the test of time. wish it could have lasted a while longer. god bless. condolences to your family. sincerely, peter j tierinni
