Robert C. "Bob" Wheeler

Robert "Bob" Wheeler, 86, of Solon, died Monday, November 21, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A time for a gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11:30 am Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Morse Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Bob's memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Robert Charles Wheeler was born October 9, 1925, in Iowa City the son of Charles and Hattie (Clouse) Wheeler. During WWII he served his country in the United States Army. Bob has spent much of his working years in the plumbing profession, starting at the Veterans Administration, and later for many years at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Upon retirement, he continued to do odd jobs for family and friends, he enjoyed being able to help, and share one of his many stories he had for you! He lived at the Senior Housing in Solon, here he was the official for everything, from plumbing needs, grocery runs, taxi service, or that friend to talk to, Bob loved living here! His family includes a sister, Melva Norton of Salina, KS; sister-in-law, Marcella Wheeler of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
