Robert "Bob" Leonard Wideman, 94, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away on December 13, 2024 at Hamilton Communities.
Bob was born on October 19, 1930 in Rolling Prairie, IN, to Charles and Ruth (Wallace) Wideman.
On August 14, 1954, in Mill Creek, he married Jeanette Stombaugh, who preceded him in death. Surviving are his 3 daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Lenig of New Carlisle, Trudy (Ken) Wahl of Sebree, KY and Judy (Bob Smith) Holse of New Carlisle; 5 grandchildren, Justin (Jama) Lenig of New Carlisle, Bryan (Donielle) Lenig of New Carlisle, Jolene (Austin) Buettner of Owensboro, KY, Ben (Jenna) Holse of Lansing, MI, and Rusty (Mandi Steffey) Holse of Elkhart; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife; and one sibling.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Bob was a tool and die maker at Howmet for many years. He was a member of the Rolling Prairie Lions Club, where he served as District Governor and held many other positions; the Kankakee Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in every aspect of the fire department, including Chief Cook for his fire crew; the AmVets; and the Rolling Prairie First Christian Church, where he was a member for many years. Bob loved fishing at Silver Lake at LeMans Academy, with his fishing buddies, and hosting many fish fries at his home. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family, which included his good friends.
He will be fondly remembered for his joke telling and willingness to help anyone in need. Bob lived a life of valor and service and was referred to as "Sweet Ole Bob".
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rolling Prairie Lions Club or the Kankakee Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept., 3 W. Michigan St., Rolling Prairie, IN 46371.
