Meridith Funeral Home, P.C. - HighlandRobert I. “Bob” Winet, 69, of Pocahontas, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by family, after living with dementia the past few years.
He was born on October 26, 1956, in Highland, IL, to James and Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Talleur) Winet. On May 21, 1976, he married Pamela “Pam” Ammann at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL.
Bob grew up on the Winet family farm, now the site of Highland Middle and High Schools. He graduated from Highland High School in 1974. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Madison County Farm Bureau, Madison County Fair Association, and Highland Moose Lodge.
He farmed his entire life, beginning as a young boy working alongside his dad and brothers. When their parents were taken from this world too soon in 1972, Bob and his brother Mike continued operations. Bob and Pam then carried on the Winet family farming tradition while raising their family.
Bob loved everything about farm life. From spring planting to fall harvest, then marketing and hauling grain in winter, he enjoyed each season on the farm. When he wasn’t in the field, he was talking farming, learning the latest advancements in agronomy, maintaining equipment, or planning the next upgrade. Vacations usually included a drive through the countryside to scout the local crops. He loved having a niece, nephew, or grandchild in the buddy seat of the tractor or combine, and Ranger rides around the farm were fun for all.
He collected tractors, both toy and full size, and his favorite color was Case IH Red. He also enjoyed reading, hunting (especially socializing at deer camp), motorcycling, boating, and was a great water skier. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. Bob was funny, always telling jokes and pulling pranks. Bob will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Pam Winet, and his parents, James and Betty Winet.
He is survived by his daughters, Jamie S. (Derek) Schrof, Highland, IL, and Jessica K. Winet-Fleer, Pocahontas, IL; grandchildren, Elena M. Schrof, Highland, IL, Braden J. Schrof, Highland, IL, and Mackenzie E. Fleer, Ellisville, MO; mother-in-law, Sue Ann Ammann-Frey; siblings, Patricia “Pat” (Hal) Klaus, Highland, IL, Michael “Mike” (Beth) Winet, Alhambra, IL, and Edward “Ed” (Kay) Winet, Highland, IL; and multiple beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Alzheimer’s Association, Madison County Fair Association, or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
