Born on October 13, 1934, Robert Wright was the youngest of eight children born to the late Everlina and Chester Wright, Sr. of Bradenton. Early Friday morning, December 3, Robert gainedhis wings and entered his eternal home. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: the late Chester Wright, Jr., James Wright, Carl Wright, Harold Wright, Ernest Wright,Sr., and sisters Eleanor Gilley and Katherine Lovett.
Robert's spiritual growth began at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, Bradenton, Florida, known today as Rogers Community United Methodist Church, where he served on the Usher and Trustee Boards until his health failed him.
Robert was educated in the Manatee County Public School System. He was a 1953 graduate of Lincoln Memorial High School in Palmetto, where he was a member of the Trojans football team. In January 1954, Robert enlisted in the United States Army where he served until January 1957, before transitioning to the Army Reserves, where he served until 1962. He attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, from August 1959, until graduating in August 1963, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
After teaching in Columbia, South Carolina, for a year, he returned to the Bradenton/Sarasota area and taught at Booker Elementary, Booker Middle, and Gulf Gate Elementary schools. Robert was dedicated to educating the youth of his community for 26 years by teaching math and science. He retired from the Sarasota County School Board in 1993. After retiring, Robert enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert was a single parent who put all his efforts into raising two daughters who he adored with all his heart.
