Robert Daniel Wright, 78 of Hastings, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at United Hospital Hastings Regina Campus in Hastings.
Robert was born on November 9, 1946 in Springfield, MA to parents Robert M. and Martha (Roesler) Wright. His early years were spent in St. Paul, where he attended Monroe High School, graduating in 1965. His strong sense of duty led him to serve his country in the United States Navy, where he spent one year stationed in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, demonstrating the courage and dedication that would define much of his life.
Upon returning from service, Rob embarked on a diverse career path. He began working for a courier service, where his reliability and warm demeanor made him a favorite among clients and colleagues. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he owned and operated a Video Update store in Prior Lake, sharing his love for movies with the community. Eventually, Rob's adventurous side took him to Las Vegas, where he worked at the Imperial Palace, leaving his mark on the bustling city. In his later years, he chose to return to Minnesota, drawing closer to the family he cherished, and entered a well-deserved retirement.
Rob's interests were as varied as his career. He was an avid user of Ancestry.com, tracing the roots of his family tree with a historian's precision. His passion for music and movies was well-known, and he could often be found recounting the tales of old Hollywood or humming the tunes of classic songs. Rob held a special place in his heart for Native American culture, and his love for sports and the great outdoors often led him to explore the natural beauty of his surroundings.
Robert is survived by his sister, Bonnie Wood of Columbia Heights and brother, Randy (Janelle) of Prescott, WI; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, William; and nephew, Dallas.
Rob's legacy is one of kindness, a gentle spirit, and an enduring love for his family and friends. He navigated life's challenges with grace and emerged with a smile that could light up a room. Those who knew Rob will remember him as a beacon of love and gentleness, a man who lived with an open heart and an unwavering sense of loyalty.
