Robert Wright Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Wright, age 92, of Shirley, Indiana, went to his heavenly home on December 30, 2025.

Bob was born in Marion, Indiana on December 10, 1933, to the late Selah and Mary (Bragg) Wright. He married the love of his life, Phyllis (Florea) Wright, on November 2, 1952, and together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with six children: Terri (Roger) Wilson, Tim (Cindy) Wright, Tom (Rhonda) Wright, Tonia (Hubert) Nolen, Tami (Tim) Hickerson, and Tracy (Beth) Wright.

The six became twelve, and those twelve blessed them with 22 grandchildren, 53 greatgrandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Family was the joy of his life. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and had a special way of making each one feel valued and important.

Bob spent more than 60 years as a principal owner and leader of STAR Financial Bank.

A passionate cowboy at heart, Bob was an avid calf roper and team roper who competed across the country for many years. He was a co-founder and proud member of the Indiana Ropers and Doggers Association. During the winter months, he and Phyllis spent their time in Florida, where family always came to visit. Family was his greatest love, and he spent countless hours at 4-H events and sporting contests cheering them on. He also owned a ranch in Oklahoma, where he enjoyed time at the cabin and fishing.

If you knew Bob, you know he never met a stranger and was always ready with a story to tell. He enjoyed going to "the corner" to eat and traveling to visit family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis Wright; his brothers, Ted Wright and Ken Wright; his grandson, David Nolen; and great-grandchildren, Rhea Kleine and Emmy Brooks. He was also preceded in death by several cherished pets, including Daisy, Krissy, Whiskers, and Billy Goat. He leaves behind his canine companions, Lady Bug and Billy. Like every good cowboy dreams, Bob was blessed with one good woman, a good horse, and a good dog.

In their later years, Bob and Phyllis were blessed with wonderful care givers: Darlene and Jesse Parker and Tina Johnson.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Wilkinson Church of Christ in Wilkinson, Indiana, with Hubert Nolen and Tracy Wright officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at McCray Cemetery, Wilkinson, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to Hope Center Indy, 11850 Brookville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46239.
