Robert M. Young, age 93, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Waynesboro Hospital. Born December 20, 1931, in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Helen M. Hays Young.
Mr. Young served in the U.S. Army honorably during the Korean Conflict in country, where he earned the Korean Service Medal w/two bronze service stars, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He continued his service working as a Quality Control Inspector at Letterkenny Army Depot for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and a life member of the Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 all in Greencastle. Mr. Young enjoyed fishing and playing cards in his spare time.
Surviving are six daughters, Diana Traver (Francis) of Greencastle, PA, Cynthia Miller-Gsell (Harry) of St. Thomas, PA, Mary Starliper (Rodney) of Chambersburg, PA, Christina Fignar (Joseph) of Ft Loudon, PA, Barbara Heister of Greencastle, PA, and Maria Monninger-DeHart (John) of Greencastle, PA; two sons, William Young of Wenatchee, WA and Tom Young of Greencastle, PA, a sister, Peggy Baker of Greencastle, PA; 22 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan Witmer Young in 2019, siblings, James, Earl, and Joseph Young and Evelyn Wagner, Joan Weller, and Jane Marshall; and two siblings in infancy, Pauline Young and a twin brother; sons-in-law, Garry Miller, Phil Heister, and Keith Monninger; a great-grandson, Thomas Seville; and great-granddaughter, Logan Starliper.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. Online condolences may be offered on his page at www.zimmermanfh.com.
