The Doxtator family joined United Indians of Milwaukee around 1981. The "center," as it was affectionately called by community members, really helped and nourished their social and cultural identity as urban Indians. Along with the Indian Community School these gave her family a large social network and extended family.
Roberta was on the school board that was instrumental at entering into partnership with the Forest County Potawatomi. This led to the opening of the Potawatomi Bingo and Casino and revenue sharing for the Indian Community School. Roberta remained on the school board until 1994 when work and home obligations forced her to resign. The Doxtator family also were core members of United Indians until 1989.
Roberta found stable long-term employment at Astronautics Corporation of America in the Shipping Department for 10 years-1980-89. She then started a new job at Master Lock Corporation on the assembly line in 1990 and worked there for 10 years and retired in 1999.
She never slowed down in her community service, she helped found the Lutheran Church of the Great Spirit in 1991 and was a church council member until 2014. She joined the Oneida Hymn Singers in 1999-2015 and enjoyed singing for the community and supporting families in need. She volunteered with the American Indian Task Force on Domestic Violence from 1999-2008 Roberta received the Wallace Pyawasit Community Leadership Award in 2014 from UWM.
