Roberta Ramos Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Funeral Home - Mattapan on Mar. 22, 2025.
Roberta Ramos (Bobbi, Bube, "Ma") was born to the late Robert and Dorothy Kemp on September 18, 1939, at Boston City Hospital. She was the oldest of three children and grew up in the Lenox Street Projects, where she formed lifelong memories and bonds with her family and community. Bobbi graduated from Girls High School in 1958, marking the beginning of a life filled with dedication and service.
Driven by a deep passion for caring and nurturing others, Bobbi graduated from Long Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. Nursing was more than a career for Bobbi; it was her calling and ministry. She served the Boston community in various roles, including working in the operating room at Harley Hospital in Dorchester and as a patient floor nurse at Brookline Hospital. Bobbi retired in 2009 after years of dedicated service as an operating room nurse at Faulkner Hospital.
A devout Christian, Bobbi was baptized and raised as a faithful member of Church of Saint Augustine and Saint Martin, where she served for over 80 years. Her unwavering faith was at the heart of her life. Bobbi became a Lay Eucharistic Minister, visiting the sick and shut-in parishioners, bringing communion, prayer, and comfort. She was an active member of the Altar Guild and Flower Guild, ensuring the altar was always polished and pristine for weekly worship and special occasions.
Her Men's Tie Ministry, creating ties for the altar every Father's Day, remains a cherished legacy at the church. Bobbi also served the Episcopal Church Women and Bazaar Committee, selling handmade crafts each year to raise funds for the church and its community.
Bobbi's dedication to others extended beyond the church. She lovingly knitted prayer shawls for those battling illness or hardship, offering comfort and warmth in more ways than one.
Bobbi met and married Joseph R. Ramos on December 24, 1966, and from their union, they were blessed with their daughter, Renée Lee Jones, who considers having Bobbi as her mother a true blessing. Bobbi's role as a mother was one of her proudest, and she was a constant source of love and support to Renée and her family.
Bobbi adored her granddaughters Keiana Burgess, Dallas Jones, and Brittani Jones. She cherished their annual summer trips to Nantucket to visit family, creating beautiful memories that will live on for generations.
Bobbi's resilience and strength in the face of adversity were remarkable. She was a three-time breast cancer survivor and a one-time colon cancer survivor, overcoming each battle with unwavering faith and courage. She is an inspiring example of the power of health, wellness, and a positive mindset.
Known for her sassy sense of humor, Bobbi loved to joke with her family and friends. She was truly the universal Mom, lovingly referred to as "Ma" by many, and her kindness and passion for life touched everyone she met.
Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Kemp, and her beloved husband Joseph Ramos.
Bobbi leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her devoted daughter Renée and son-in-love Leshawn Jones, her granddaughters Keiana Burgess, Dallas Jones, and Brittani Jones, her sister Jo-Ann Lumpkins, her brother Stephen Kemp, and her nephew David Lumpkins.
She also leaves behind Godchildren Robin Walker (Geoff Talvola), Jodee Farrar (George), Ramona Lisa Alexander, and Antoinette Pryor. Bobbi's extended family includes several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of devoted friends, as well as many adopted children who lovingly called her Ma.
