Mrs. Roberta M. Tyler passed away on Saturday morning, February 21, 2026 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services will be live streamed on cbcamericus.org.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.
Born June 17, 1933 in Sycamore, Georgia in Turner County, she and her twin sister Laverne were the youngest children born to the late Perry Luster Medlin and the late Dona Clark Medlin.
Mrs. Roberta had been employed at the Southern Bell telephone company and Mack Trucks in Atlanta. One Sunday she traveled down to Americus to visit with her brother Ernest who worked for Marcus Tyler. Through Ernest, she met Marcus, and they were later married. It was at this point that she took on the role of home maker, raising her family and working in her yard. She enjoyed watching Braves baseball, reading, bird watching, and taking care of pets.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marcus E. Tyler, Sr.; her daughter Sylvia T. Gary; her great-grandson Austin Gary; and all eight of her siblings.
Survivors include her son Mark Tyler (Kimberly Hardin); grandsons Tyler Gary (Melissa) and Josh Gary; great-grandchildren: Sylvia Gary, Jacob Garcia, Leigha Gary, Alex Gary, Ethan Gary, Lucas Gary, and Olivia Gary; great-great-granddaughter Oaklynn June London; several nieces and nephews; and special grandchildren Audi the dog and Gizmo the cat.
