Roberto Porro, de 65 años, de Shelby, NC, falleció en su hogar el sábado 15 de noviembre de 2025. Nació el 11 de febrero de 1960 en Camagüey, Cuba, hijo de Ana Horta y Sergio Porro.

Roberto asistió a la universidad en La Habana, Cuba, donde estudió Mecanización Agrícola. Trabajó como operador de prensa metálica en Checoslovaquia durante 5 años, en la era de la Unión Soviética, como parte de una alianza soviético-cubana, y regresó a Cuba debido a la caída de la Unión Soviética. Abandonó Cuba en una balsa durante el Éxodo Cubano de 1994 y quedó varado en el océano durante 5 días antes de ser rescatado por la Guardia Costera de los Estados Unidos. Desde el momento en que llegó, Roberto amó profundamente a los Estados Unidos y permaneció eternamente agradecido por la libertad y la oportunidad que encontró aquí. Aunque enfrentó muchos desafíos a lo largo de su vida, su adaptabilidad, tenacidad y espíritu inquebrantable siempre brillaron a través de su vivaz personalidad.

Roberto fue un esposo devoto para Estela Porro Delgado; un padre amoroso para sus hijas, Yenisel y Yerilyn. También le sobreviven sus hermanas, Irene Estrada, Belkis Porro, Liliana Porro, Mercedes Espinosa; y sus hermanos, Sergio Porro Jr., Pablo Moreno, Dámaso Porro y Amado Oro.

Roberto valoraba profundamente a sus muchos amigos cercanos, demasiados para nombrarlos, y estaba profundamente agradecido por su constante amor y apoyo. Mantuvo un vínculo especial con su compadre, Guillermo Lesassier, y su esposa Maritza, así como con Bruno Santos, su amigo de la infancia.

Roberto amaba su trabajo. Pasó más de 20 años en la fabricación de metal. Cuando no estaba trabajando, siempre se le encontraba buscando algo más que hacer en la casa, ya que simplemente no podía quedarse quieto. Un verdadero "todoterreno", cultivó un gran huerto junto a su esposa, remodeló su hogar y abordó incontables proyectos con entusiasmo.

Le encantaban la música, el baile, la natación, la navegación y viajar. Nada podía detenerlo. Incluso cuando su salud comenzó a deteriorarse, Roberto se negó a retirarse. Siempre estaba lleno de energía contagiosa y vida, compartiendo generosamente su alegría con todos los que lo conocieron.

Roberto será profundamente extrañado.

Roberto Porro, 65, of Shelby, NC passed away in his home on Saturday, November 15, 2025. He was born on February 11, 1960 in Camagüey, Cuba to Ana Horta and Sergio Porro.

Roberto attended college in Havana, Cuba where he studied Agricultural Mechanization. He worked as a metal press operator in Czechoslovakia, for 5 years, during the Soviet Union era as part of a Soviet-Cuban alliance and returned to Cuba due to the fall of the Soviet Union. He left Cuba on a raft, during the 1994 Cuban Exodus, and was stranded in the ocean for 5 days before being rescued by the United States Coast Guard. From the moment he arrived, Roberto deeply loved the United States and remained eternally grateful for the freedom and opportunity he found here. Though he faced many challenges throughout his life, his adaptability, tenacity, and unwavering spirit always shone through his lively personality.

Roberto was a devoted husband to Estela Porro Delgado; loving father to his daughters, Yenisel and Yerilyn; He is also survived by his sisters;Irene Estrada, Belkis Porro, Liliana Porro, Mercedes Espinosa and brothers; Sergio Porro jr., Pablo Moreno, Damaso Porro, and Amado Oro.

Roberto treasured his many close friends, far too many to name, and was profoundly grateful for their constant love and support. He held a special bond with his compadre, Guillermo Lesassier and his wife Maritza, as well as with Bruno Santos, his childhood friend.

Roberto loved his work. He spent more than 20 years in metal fabrication. When he wasn't working, he could always be found looking for more to do around the house as he simply could not sit still. A true jack of all trades, he cultivated a large vegetable garden with his wife, remodeled their home, and tackled countless projects with enthusiasm.

He loved music, dancing, swimming, boating, and traveling. Nothing could slow him down. Even as his health declined, Roberto refused to retire. He was always full of contagious energy and life, sharing his joy generously with all who knew him.

Roberto will be dearly missed.
